Thank you, Jane B., for asking your question about how Pluto is going to affect someone with the Sun in Aquarius or with Aquarius Rising.  A great deal has been written about the negative reputation of Pluto but there really is no need to be frightened.  After all, Pluto is always influencing us from somewhere in the heavens but it can be helpful to be aware of the challenges and opportunities that will arise in your own life while it transits through Capricorn.

Please remember that everything I write is for guidance only and you should always seek professional help for any pressing emotional or medical problems.  Also bear in mind that while Pluto will spend approximately 16 years in Capricorn, any noticeable effects on you certainly won’t last anywhere near as long.

Born with Aquarius rising, Capricorn is most likely to be the sign ruling your 12th house, which is associated with secrecy and what goes on behind the scenes, hence its negative reputation and connection with isolation, withdrawal and institutions such as hospitals and prisons.  It used to be called the ‘house of hidden enemies’ or the ‘house of self-undoing’ but nowadays we link it to our subconscious storehouse of emotions and ideas.

Pluto itself is also connected to what lies beneath the surface, hidden from sight but nonetheless profoundly important.  So with Pluto transiting your 12th house you may be confronted with the consequences of past thoughtless actions or unconscious behavior patterns.  This could come as quite a shock, especially if it involves confrontations with friends, family, colleagues or even total strangers.  The good news is that these situations are providing you with real opportunities to grow and bloom as a person.  It could be helpful to take some time out for self examination.  Counseling, therapy or even shamanic journeys are wonderful ways of really learning what makes you tick.  No doubt you will encounter aspects of yourself that you may not have been aware of and possibly don’t like very much but that is all part of the process.  I can’t tell you that it will all be fireworks and fun but I can tell you that if you are faced with difficult relationships and situations, hiding your head in the sand won’t work but facing up to the issues will.  You may have to say goodbye to someone in your life but letting them go with love is your only real option as refusing to acknowledge someone else’s need for freedom is as harmful to you as it is to him or her.

Pluto and the 12th house are also both implicated in repeated patterns of thought and behavior and this is the ideal transit to help you to kick a negative habit like smoking or eating junk food.  You may find that even if you have tried many times before, you now have the motivation and will power to succeed.

Still scared?  Well let me just finish by saying that ultimately, the transit of Pluto through the 12th house provides genuine potential to be completely ‘reborn’.  Once you have faced up to fear, especially if linked to anger, self assertion and true intimacy and commitment, you could find that you have a whole new way of looking at life.  You may discover a passion for something you never knew existed or a talent or skill that you never dreamed of.  While one or more relationships may die away, there is also the very real potential to enjoy very deep and profound love either with your current partner or someone you haven’t yet met.

Remember, Pluto moves so slowly that not everyone will experience it transiting the 12th house.  Respect its power but don’t be frightened of it because this is an opportunity not given to everyone!

If you have the Sun in Aquarius, Pluto in Capricorn is 150◦away by sign.  This aspect is less confrontational than an opposition but not as harmonious a connection as a trine.  If you find that you are suddenly beset with niggles and irritations, try to see if there is a pattern to them.  The chances are that if you find yourself fighting with others over the same issues, Pluto may be highlighting a recurring pattern.  And because the Sun in Aquarius is a fixed sign, it may take you a while to recognize that a slight shift in your own perspective could make all the difference in your relationships!

Pluto relates to power issues and also how we handle our anger.  Aquarians are idealists and tend to get upset when others don’t behave as honorably as they should or could.  There could be immense temptation to try and force others into thinking and acting in the way that you feel is best for ‘humanity’ – just don’t!!  Allow Pluto to help you to transform your irritation and anger into something positive – like inspiring others through your own example.

Finally, as an Aquarian, there is sometimes a tendency to ‘shut off’ from your feelings.  Paradoxically, Pluto in Capricorn may mean that you find your feelings closer to the surface than usual.  Stick with them and resist the urge to bury them – this is a God-given opportunity to understand who you really are and how you can get what you genuinely want from life because your desire will be coming from your heart rather than your head.

“Dear Bethea First of all, may I take this opportunity to thank you so very much for sending me your astrology. I do appreciate it, and have found your predictions for Scorpios very useful in my daily life. Thank you again. Unfortunately, there is a little confusion about my birthday . I think it may be because of the differences between the Australian and the American system of dates. I was actually born on the 8th November, 1949, and not the 11th November as in your records.”
